About the programme:

 

This workshop focusses on enabling the learner to help others to identify gaps in their performance and bridging these gaps. Counselling and motivating someone to understand stumbling blocks and setting up an action plan to enhance performance.

 

The workshop outcome:

 

The learner should be able to conduct effective counselling for incapacity or poor work performance in order to assist the employee in improving his/her performance.

 

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

 

Participants will achieve the workshop outcome by:

 

  1. Explain when counselling an employee would be relevant
  2. Discuss the different stages in the counselling process
  3. Explain the importance of having reasonable/attinable standards in place
  4. Explain the importance of identifying causes
  5. Explain the importance of getting agreement on solutions or an action plan to improve performance
  6. Explain the importance of having a follow-up meeting
  7. Explain the importance of the same manager/supervisor conducting all the counselling sessions
  8. Conduct the counselling procedure according to organisational and legislative requirements
  9. Measure actual performance against required performance
  10. Identify causes for the performance gap
  11. Agree on a solution or action plan with the employee
  12. Ensure a follow-up meeting takes place
  13. Ensure all relevant documentation is completed
  14. Given that the employee's performance has not improved sufficiently

 

Training methodology:

 

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own environments, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace. Most of the interactive learning will take the form of simulated exercises where participants work towards certain outcomes or demonstrate the skills taught.
A lot of individual attention is given to participants and NLP (Neuro linguistic Programming) techniques will be used to condition participants towards optimal functioning.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
