About the programme:

The HIV / Aids Intervention Programme will consist of three days theory & practice and two days of evaluation. The practical evaluation will take place + two weeks after the actual training.
The programme will cover the following areas:

  • Understanding the virus
  • Working with HIV/Aids perceptions, in terms of 1st and 2nd person perspective.
  • About HIV/Aids Interventions
  • Working with a model to deal with HIV/Aids
  • Skills development
  • Practical one on one counselling
  • Practical group counselling

Trainees will be given an assignment during the last day of the programme and will be practically assessed on the assignment during the evaluation session. On successful completion of the assessment, trainees will receive a certificate with credits.

The workshop outcome:

On completion of the programme participants should be able to deal with one-on-one interventions as well as group interventions in the field of HIV/Aids.

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

Participant will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  • Define HIV / Aids and understand the impact of the virus.
  • Differentiate between the myths and facts regarding HIV / Aids (including how one can get infected and how one can avoid infection).
  • Work with people infected with the virus.
  • Understand the process that a diagnosed person will go through, from infection to death.
  • Know the ways in which an infected person can maintain a healthy lifestyle (way of living, eating, medication, etc)
  • Demonstrate one-on-one counselling skills
  • Facilitate a HIV/Aids awareness session.

Training methodology:

Our methodology is based on experiential learning. This implies a practical approach where participants actively experience their learning through exercises, case studies, role-plays, etc.
During this programme the learners will be lectured on the content of HIV / Aids for + three hours wherein they will use open discussions with a medical expert to understand the context of the virus. The rest of the programme will be spent on teaching the group one on one counselling skills and enabling them to facilitate HIV / Aids awareness sessions. Once this process is completed the group will receive a practical assignment for which they will have + two weeks to prepare. The assignment will be in the form of a case study. The last phase of this work session will be where the group is assessed in the class.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
