About the programme:

The programme is a skills based programme, aimed at enabling managers and supervisors to use coaching and mentoring skills as part of their daily role function. Participants are given the necessary theoretical background where after case studies and demonstrations are used to transfer coaching and skills.

The workshop outcome:

The learner should be able to develop others on the job, in a way that contributes to the overall effectiveness of the organisation. It is vitally important to share as much kknowledge and experience as possible for the long-term benefit of the industry.

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

Participants will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of training
  2. Explain the importance of questioning techniques and give examples of questions
  3. Distinguish the concepts of coaching and training from each other
  4. Describe alternative arrangements for coaching
  5. Identify the need for coaching through discussions with the person to be coached
  6. Arrange a specific time and place for the coaching session, and prepare for it
  7. Communicate theory and knowledge associated with the coaching session
  8. Complete the coaching session
  9. Give honest feedback and encourage the learner to ask questions
  10. Monitor the ongoing progress and give ongoing feedback in the workplace
  11. Identify possible problems that may occur in relation to coaching
  12. Develop a plan for individual coaching, taking the needs of the team into account

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own environments, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace. Theory will be firmly based on the practical application of concepts in reality.

Role-plays and case studies will help learners to practice skills related to the unit standard. Practical implementation of skills will be a focus point.
