About the programme:

The programme consists of two workshops. The first workshop deals with Diversity Awareness & Interpersonal effectiveness and the second workshop with Practical Diversity Management & Legal aspects.

Workshop 1: Diversity awareness & Interpersonal effectiveness

This is a three day workshop and has the following content:

  • Introduction
  • Culture
  • Discrimination
  • Racism
  • Stereotypes
  • Sexism
  • Heterosexism
  • Closure

Workshop 2: Practical diversity management and Legal aspects

This is a three day workshop and has the following content:

  • Management of difficult diversity issues
  • Intervening effectively in stereotypical actions and attitudes
  • Facilitation of institutional change by creating diversity awareness
  • Implementing a affirmative action policy
  • The legal aspects of equity in SA context

The workshop outcome:

On completion of the programme participants should be able to manage human diversity effectively within their organisations.

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

Participants will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  • Facilitate institutional change by creating diversity awareness. This will ultimately assist in developing an organizational culture, which is impartial.
  • Increase their interpersonal effectiveness to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Intervene effectively in stereotypical actions and attitudes.
  • Obtain the necessary skills to implement the organizational affirmative action policy.
  • Understand and know the different legal aspects that govern equity in South African context.
  • Obtain the necessary skills to manage diversity issues in organizational context.

Exemptions:

People who have attended the three-day Diversity Training Program or the Diversity Train the Trainers Program will be exempted from the first workshop.

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own organisations, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
