About the programme:

Performing financial analysis and planning; making investment decisions; and making financing decisions are the focus areas of this programme. The workshop also covers the financial managers role in the Total Quality Management (TQM) programme of the organisation.
The following areas are covered during the workshop:

  • The goal and environment of the financial manager
  • Basic financial concepts
  • Long-term investment decisions
  • Cost of capital, leverage and capital structures
  • Long term financing decisions
  • Short term financial decisions

The workshop outcome:

On completion of this workshop the participant should have practical knowledge on how to actively manage the financial affairs of an organisation by being competent on the following unit standards.

Programme Assessment:

Participants will be assessed on the following specific outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of corporate finance
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of valuations in corporate finance
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the role that the regulatory environment plays in corporate finance
  4. Explain financial analysis in a business operation
  5. Calculate ratios to measure profitability and resource utilisation
  6. Calculate ratios to measure viability
  7. Identify growth opportunities through financial results and report the results of financial analysis

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own environments, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace. Most of the interactive learning will take the form of simulated exercises and case studies where participants will demonstrate the skills taught.

On completion of the workshop participants will have to hand in an assignment before a certificate is issued. The assignment will serve as a portfolio of evidence, in accordance to which the learner will be assessed as pompetent or not yet competent.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
