About the programme:

The HIV / AIDS Management Workshop is a practical session where participants learn to understand the virus and the management thereof within Organisational context. Some of the areas covered during the workshop are:

  • Introduction to HIV and AIDS (general questions and answers)
  • Testing for HIV
  • Getting HIV/AIDS
  • HIV/AIDS Infection & Prevention
  • Living with HIV/AIDS
  • Supervision of HIV+ employees
  • Applicable legislation
  • HIV/AIDS Policy and strategy development
  • Union involvement in HIV management
  • HIV/AIDS Organisational support structures
  • Managing incapacity to work as result of AIDS

The workshop outcome:

On completion of this workshop the learner, in his/her role as manager, will be able to assist his/her Organisation in managing the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

Participants will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  • Have a basic understanding of HIV/AIDS
  • Know the difference between HIV and AIDS
  • Understand how the HIV virus infects
  • Know how you cannot be infected with the HIV virus
  • Know what the requirements are for staying healthy whilst being infected with the HIV virus
  • Have basic knowledge on the legislation governing HIV/AIDS
  • Know what strategies, policies and structures the organisation has to have in place to manage the HIV/AIDS epidemic
  • Understand what aspects are important when managing and supervising an HIV+ employee
  • Know how to manage the performance of and HIV+ employee

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own personal lives and work environment, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace and home.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
