About the programme:

The purpose of this programme is to sensitise managers to the broader context of Labour Relations Management and their own specific role. Starting off with a general introduction of Labour Relations within the South African context and then moving to more detailed aspects, such as:

  • Applicable legislation (Labour relations Act, Employment Equity Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, etc)
  • Unions and Recognition agreements
  • Grievance procedures and management
  • Disciplinary management & procedures
  • Appeal & Dispute procedures

Workshop outcome:

On completion of this programme the participant must understand the broader context of Managing Labour Relations as well as more specific aspects of the Labour Relations function.

Specific workshop outcomes:

Participants will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  • Understand the Labour Relations Function
  • Understand the impact and value of an employment contract
  • Apply Labour Relations legislation
  • Work with Unions
  • Know the rights and obligations of Union representatives and understand the impact of recognition agreements
  • Manage and understand grievance and disciplinary procedures
  • Know how appeal and dispute procedures work
  • Know the employers rights towards employment and dismissal

NQF Accreditation:

DCT Consulting is registered through the Services Seta with Decision Number 0263. The HR Management Programme is based on approved NQF Unit Standards and on completion of the programme a Certificate with Credits will be Issued.

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own environments, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace. Most of the interactive learning will take the form of simulated exercises and case studies where participants will demonstrate the skills taught.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
