About the programme:

The Financial Management for Non-financial Managers programme is designed to give participants the necessary knowledge and skills in order to understand and implement basic financial concepts.
The following areas are covered during the programme:

  • The management process and accounting
  • Financial statements
  • Key concepts of Budgeting
  • Key concepts of Cost Management Accounting
  • Principles of healthy financial management

The workshop outcome:

On completion of this workshop the participant should have a basic understanding of financial management and financial concepts, by being competent in the following unit standards.

Programme Assessment:

Participants will be assessed on the following specific outcomes:

  1. Identify sources of income and expenditure and draw up a personal and business budget
  2. Monitor and control activities against budgets
  3. Justify proposals for expenditure on projects
  4. Apply methods to grow the business financially
  5. Analyse the basic elements of an income and expenditure statement
  6. Analyse the basic elements of a balance sheet
  7. Compile a personal assets and liabilities statement
  8. Use the evidence in financial statements to make a financial decision
  9. Explain the concept of budgeting in a business unit
  10. Analyse the budget needs of a business unit
  11. Present and justify a proposed budget for a business unit
  12. Monitor and control actual expenses and revenue against projected expenses and revenue

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own environments, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace. Most of the interactive learning will take the form of simulated exercises and case studies where participants will demonstrate the skills taught.

Learners will have to submit a post workshop assignment before certicates are issued. The assignment will be in the form of a portfolio of evidence, and credits will be issued based on the competence displayed in this portfolio of evidence.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
