About the programme:

The research methodology programme is designed as an introductory programme to the field of research methodology. It is a practical programme and learners will spend a lot of time during training in a simulation case study where they will go through the mechanics of doing a research project.
Some of the areas covered in the training programme will be:

  • The aims of research
  • The research topic, title and research problem
  • Research design with reference to quantitative and qualitative research
  • Validity of conclusions
  • Data collecting methods and measuring instruments in quantitative research
  • Data analysis and interpretation of results
  • Report writing
  • The research proposal

The workshop outcome:

After completion of the workshop the participant should be able to design and conduct basic research.

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

Specific outcomes are taken from unit standards registered on the NQF to ensure that learners can acquire credits towards full qualifications. These specific outcomes can be added to, to address specific organisational needs.
The learner will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  1. Select an area and topic for research
  2. Select and supply appropriate research methodologies
  3. Design a research action plan
  4. Conduct and manage the research process in according to the research action plan
  5. Evaluate the research process
  6. Make recommendations regarding future improvements
  7. Produce and present a research report
  8. Interpret data collected

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Both theory and practical assessment will be dealt with during the training session. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own organisations, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace.
As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
